Blijkbaar valt mijn gedicht ‘Het Huis aan het Kanaal’, uit mijn recent verschenen bundel ‘Het is niet wat er staat’, in de smaak. Nadat het eerder door Siti en Albert Hagenaars werd vertaald in het Indonesisch, heeft de in het Deense Svendborg wonende John Irons het nu ook vertaald in het Engels. Het staat te lezen op zijn vertaalblog, die veel volgers kent.

THE HOUSE BY THE CANAL

See him take up his fixed spot once more

on the bank in the early morning light.

Where undisturbed he sits for hours gazing

out across the surface of a writing desk –

with the wind unruffled, the distance

distant and the words as elusive

and transparent as water.

What then holds whom, who there holds what

on the line: the poem the poet

or the poet the poem?
